Pain
Pain is a warning from this very complicated, sophisticated thing we walk around in and call a body. It is important to understand the meaning of what the body is trying to tell us and not just try to suppress it because, in the early stages, it is annoying.
Whether through injury or just normal repetitive activities of life, loss of small motions lead to functional changes between the vertebrae and other joints and loss of larger motions. These lead to activation of special pain-sensing nerve endings, called nociceptors which send signals through a network of nerves that run throughout the body into the spinal cord and to the cortex of the brain — the location where pain is felt. When the brain and body can no longer adapt/compensate further the result is pain due very often to overstretching of ligaments, muscle spasm, the development of “trigger points” and strain which produce inflammation. This can and usually is accompanied by visceral complaints as well.
Neurological Orthopedic Evaluation
The brain and nervous system coordinate and control all aspects of your body’s functions, through receipt and transmission of information between you and your environment through telephone cable like nerve bundles composed of millions of nerves with thousands of connections and relay stations. This allows you to walk, run, talk, digest, breath, laugh, cry, and live your life without thinking about it. When these signals are interrupted by injury, wear and tear, weakness of muscles, joints and ligaments, symptoms are the result. These symptoms can also manifest in pain or as changes in other body systems such as digestion, heart, circulation, movement, mood, etc.
Nutrition
Two primary sources of fuel, oxygen and food, are necessary for your brain and body to work. When your body is injured there is increased demand for fuel, while at the same time your ability to assimilate nutrients from your food and your oxygen intake are reduced. We will make changes in your diet or provide supplements to support the healing process.
